About Us
Filips Eye Clinic was established in 1986. Our commitment, then and now is to provide the finest full scope vision and eye health care available. Utilizing state-of-the-art instrumentation and techniques, along with the highest quality materials and professional staff, we serve the total eye care needs of people of all ages. In addition, we serve as eye care educators to every patient, the community at large, and other health care professionals.

Roger Filips, O.D., F.A.A.O.
Dr. Filips graduated from high school in Spencer, Nebraska. After attending Mount Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota, he attended the Ohio State University College of Optometry. He practiced two years in Ohio before returning to Nebraska to open a new practice in Hartington and taking over Dr. Magwire’s practice in Creighton.
In 1995 Dr. Filips moved to Dayton Ohio for 3 years. While there, he pursued advanced training including the following accomplishments:
1) Clinical instructor for the Ohio State University College of Optometry.
2) Senior Examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry.
3) Consulting Optometrist for the Dayton VA Medical Center.
4) Staff optometrist at The Cincinnati Eye Institute, the nation's largest private, multispecialty ophthalmology clinic.
5) Dr. Filips built a busy glaucoma practice treating glaucoma patients referred by other doctors.
6) He worked directly with nationally known glaucoma specialists diagnosing and treating unusual and difficult cases.
7) Educator – Dr Filips lectures to students, residents and other doctors.
8) Author – Dr. Filips has published a best selling textbook on eye disease. (Clinical Pearls for Optometry, Anadem, 2001, Clinical Pearls for Optometry Second Edition, Anadem, 2006)
Dr. Filips has earned the following professional honors:
a) Nominated for national Optometrist of the Year, 1995.
b) Nebraska Optometrist of the year, 1994.
c) Awarded Presidential Citation for service by the Nebraska Optometric Association, 1993.
c) Nebraska Optometric Association Board of directors, 1994 to 1995 and 1998 to present.
d) President, Nebraska Optometric Association, 2002.
On a personal note, Dr. Filips is an instrument rated commercial pilot and flys all over the United States for business and pleasure. He and Ann love to tour on their motorcycle.
He is married to Ann and is very proud of his children Mark, Jackie, and Emily.

Gail - Certified Paraoptometric (CPO)
Lab Manager,Filips Eye Clinic - Hartington
Gail has 33 years of experience in health care and has worked at Sacred Heart Hospital and the Family Medicine Center. Gail has worked at Filips Eye Clinic for 11 years.
Gail takes medical and visual histories, measures vision at distance and near, measures color vision and depth perception, takes blood pressure, blood glucose, and pulse, checks side vision and measures eye pressures. She also uses an auto-refractor to estimate your prescription before Dr. Filips sees you. The auto refractor allows Gail to measure a prescription for the very young and others unable to respond to conventional vision testing.
Gail is also in charge of the lab. She selects all inventory and orders glasses and contacts for our patients. She is expert at helping people select stylish glasses that also wear well. She will adjust and repair your glasses. Gail is enthusiastic about all of the new lens technologies such as the new anti-reflection coatings that don't smudge or scratch, transitions sun lenses, and the new Tru-Clear HD invisible bifocal by that allows you to see better than ever.

Karma has worked with us since 2001 She has extensive experience owning and managing small businesses and is also active in the Hartington Chamber of Commerce.
Karma will make your appointment, greet you, and update your computer file. After your exam she will prepare your receipt, bill your insurance for any covered claims, and schedule your next appointment. Karma also helps you select a stylish frame that will fit you well. She adjusts, dispenses, and repairs glasses.
Karma is in charge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, transcription, collections, billing, office inventory, recalls, and all computer and paper records.

Denise has been with us since 2009. She loves to work with people and is enthusiastic about finding new ways to help them. Denise will make your appointment, greet you, and update your computer file. After your exam she will prepare your receipt, bill your insurance for any covered claims, and schedule your next appointment. Denise also helps you to select a stylish frame that will fit you well. She adjusts, dispenses, and repairs glasses.
Denise is in charge of accounts receivable, collections, billing, office inventory, recalls, and all computer and paper records. She also coordinates recalls between the offices.

Ann joined our staff in 2006. She has personally benefitted from Vision Therapy, so you can talk to her directly about how this can improve your child's reading and learning. She also takes medical and visual histories, measures vision at distance and near, measures color vision and depth perception, takes blood pressure and pulse and blood glucose, checks side vision and measures eye pressures. She also uses an auto-refractor to estimate your prescription before Dr. Filips sees you. Ann is in charge of auditing our accounts to be sure your order is billed and paid accurately.
